Today I went to grades 3, 4, 5 and had students try the App MathWizLive. It is a free one. On that app it
does multiplication, addition, division, and subtraction. There are two levels and choices of modes.
It is timed. At the end of the time a "report card" showing the number completed and points are given.
When I asked the 8 students their opinion, they all gave the activities a thumbs up. The only thing you have to be careful of is not to hit the bottom of the screen where one ad come up. That was the only thing I noticed and 2 students said they noticed too. I also tried having 2 students share the iPad and for this activity it was good and only slowed them down a short time.
On my school webpage I have added a short list of free apps students have tried and liked.
ReplyDeleteJoAnne,

Math Wiz Live
"Simple enough to just pick up and play, but challenging enough to keep you coming back. 3 games in one, each offering a different type of challenge. In Math Wiz mode, you're given all the numbers and operators, you need to figure out in which order they should all be placed to reach the stated target number. You've got one minute to figure it out."
Good for grades 2-5. Children in grades 3 to 5 tried this out with multiplication and enjoyed the challenge of increasing how many they got correct in the the one minute timing!
